Program Information

Junior NJ Cricket or fondly referred to as JNJC started as a pilot youth development program in the summer of 2006, it was initiated by Kalpesh Patel with assistance a few players from the Cricket League of New Jersey (CLNJ). The participation level exceeded all of our expectations when more than 40 boys registered and participated in the program during its first session.

The program is created to develop and enhance the cricket skills of New Jersey youth between the age of 10 and 17. The primary objective of the program is to introduce "Hard Ball" cricket to develop young cricketers who in a relatively short time will be able to play the game at advanced levels. This program will allow us to introduce the game of cricket to all the curious youngsters that watch cricket games being played at the Fairgrounds during their baseball practice and games. It will definitely cater to the numerous children from that have shown a keen interest to learn how to play cricket and join a cricket club. The ultimate goal is to produce "Little League Cricket" for our area, and have regular, organized and competitive junior cricket.

We are currently working with several schools to introduce cricket as part of their Physical Education (PE) curriculum, at same time assisting them to establish a Cricket Clubs for their school, thereby ultimately creating an infrastructure for “Inter School” cricket competition. If you are aware of any school district that would be receptive to such a program, or are able to assist us in any way, please contact us by email.

We are also in the process of organizing a “Little League Cricket” program during the summer vacation, where 25 over matches will be played every Friday. If you know any one between the age of 10 and 17 that is interested in joining "Junior NJ Cricket" for either the upcoming Winter or Summer program, or are aware of any individuals or organizations that would assist us in reaching these goals please contact us by sending an email to Info@JuniorNJCricket.com

Winter Indoor Program

We have negotiated with an existing baseball facility and established a JNJC "Winter" indoor program to maintain continuity for its members. This practice facility is located in Edison, it is available to JNJC for 2 hours time block every week, it will be set up with 3 full length nets that have 30+ feet for bowlers run up. The program began on November 18, 2006 and will continue until the end of April 2007. This program will accommodate more than 30 participants. The practice sessions will be held LATE on FRIDAY nights.

Summer Outdoor Program

The summer program will be conducted at the Cricket Field on the Far Hills ground. There will be at least 3 sessions per week that will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. On Monday and Wednesday will be practice sessions where the boys improve their basic cricket skills such as batting, bowling and fielding. On Friday there will be organized 20 over matches that allow the young cricketers to apply their skills in a "real match" scenario. It will also give them precious "Match Time" experience that they are simply not able to acquire elsewhere.

Fairgrounds “Cricket Field” Infrastructure

We are currently working with the Borough of Far Hills to develop the FIRST and ONLY world class “Cricket Field” specifically for youth development in North East America. They have granted us access to create the required infrastructure, which includes laying down a Permanent Synthetic Turf Pitch  on top of a sophisticated drainage system by a company that has installed wickets around the world including England and India. In order to play high quality cricket the grass on the “Cricket Field” will be cut as low as the height of the grass on a fairway of a golf course. The 30 yards inner circle as well as the 60 yards boundary will be marked out with chalk. There is also a plan to bring in sight screens and a permanent scoreboard from England.
